The 5th International Conference on Imagination and Education The IERG and the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University are excited to once again welcome people from around the world to our event. Each year the conference has brought together over 350 teachers, administrators, academics, graduate students and people interested in education to consider themes of imaginative education.
This year's event begins with an optional Professional Development Workshop in Imaginative Education on July 17th and 18th. This two-day workshop is designed for those who would like to familiarize themselves with the basic principles of "imaginative education" and to receive close direction in the implementation of these principles for teaching practice.
The Conference itself opens on the evening of Wednesday July 18th with an introduction and opening plenary followed by a reception for all delegates and presenters. Featuring the musical stylings of a local band, delegates spend the rest of the evening meeting and socializing with new and old acquaintances and colleagues.
Taking place at the Coast Hotel & Suites, the next three days are filled with a variety of presentations, workshops, roundtables and panel discussions that will suit anyone who is interested in imaginative education and connecting theory to practice. We chose this theme based on the feedback that we have received from previous years' delegates.
Our second annual Research Symposium will take place throughout the conference. During these sessions, researchers and academics will be presenting papers reporting on current research in education. While proposals are refereed for the Conference, the Research Symposium provides an opportunity for researchers to have their full paper refereed.
Due to its popularity in 2006, we are inviting delegates to join together at an optional, pre-registered dinner on Thursday evening after the day's sessions. Seats are limited and must be reserved in advance. We hope you will join us at our Harbour View Dinner!
Not to be missed is the Dinner Boat Cruise on the evening of Friday, July 20th. The MV Britannia of Harbour Cruises, has been reserved and takes passengers around the waters surrounding the stunning City of Vancouver. Register early for the conference and this event as Cruise tickets are limited.
The conference closes Saturday afternoon with an informal Closing Session during which delegates are invited to discuss the conference and future research projects. Cookies and beverages are served for those who need an additional incentive to join us!
