  • What people are saying about Imaginative Education

It’s great stuff! I was exposed to it through the article in Educational Leadership and I am now reading the book. It makes so much sense! Thank you for your great work! Dave Bell (Texas)

When I started to use IE several years ago now, that I tried it out in a few lessons here and there, was amazed at the success and then began to look for other areas and subjects in which I could use the Lesson Planning Frameworks and other aspects of the theory. Pamela Hagen.

I am just back home after a great pro-day and still reeling from all that I learned from your workshop. Pamela Walker (Victoria, B.C.)

I've been having a great deal of success with IE in the classroom. I taught grade 5 last year using IE-based concepts and had a GREAT year. I'm teaching kindergarten this year and using the concepts again - so far so fabulous! Mary Mulleady, (Teacher, Surrey.)

The first of our 2005/6 seminars was held on 22nd . September at Simon Fraser University. There were three talks, followed by discussion:

The audience gathers for the fun. Our new IERG faculty member, Sean Blenkinsop, in the red shirt in the front row, fortifies himself for what is to come.

    Kieran Egan spoke on:
Evolution, hunter-gatherers, and today's primary classroom.

    Geoff Madoc-Jones spoke on:
Imagination + genre transposition: Liminal performances in the secondary Language Arts classroom.

    Keiichi Takaya spoke on:
How to develop students' imaginative capacities.

In the past we have put materials prepared by the speakers on this website, but will now post the talks themselves in QuickTime video format. You may watch these talks by clicking here on the list to the right

Our second seminar took place on Thursday, October 27 th .   Dr, Natalia Gajdamaschko spoke on the topic "Vygotsky and Culture." She discussed the complexities of Vygotsky's interpretation of culture as it is formulated in cultural historical psychology. She drew on her recent chapter written with Michael Cole that will appear in The Cambridge Companion to Vygotsky . The discussion was so lively, we had to eventually close it down so that Dr. Gajdamaschko could get dinner and save the remains of her voice.
