  • It’s great stuff! I was exposed to it through the article in Educational Leadership and I am now reading the book. It makes so much sense! Thank you for your great work! Dave Bell (Texas)

When I started to use IE several years ago now, that I tried it out in a few lessons here and there, was amazed at the success and then began to look for other areas and subjects in which I could use the Lesson Planning Frameworks and other aspects of the theory. Pamela Hagen.

The LiDKiT: Resources for Implementing the Learning in Depth Program is in final preparation and is now available for ordering here. It will be ready in the next month or so. The LiDKiT contains all the resources a teacher or school needs to fully implement the "Learning in Depth" program.

    Format:

Box containing 2 books, DVD, activity cards, resource booklet, brochures, and laminated list of LiD topics.

    Description

The Learning in Depth Program (LiD) has captured the imagination of teachers and students in over a dozen countries around the world. This innovative program fosters curiosity and nurtures a love of learning by allowing students to become self-directed experts on a topic over the course of their schooling.
Designed for teachers who will be supervising the development of students’ LiD portfolios, this resource kit addresses practical matters of keeping students imaginatively engaged with their LiD topics. The LiDKit: Resources for Implementing the Learning in Depth Program compiles materials for teachers who want to implement LiD in their classrooms or schools, as well as introduce LiD to other teachers, administrators, and parents. Included are:

    • Dr. Kieran Egan’s book Learning in Depth: A Simple Innovation That Can Transform Schooling (University of Chicago Press, 2010), which provides the underlying theory for the Learning in Depth program
    • a teachers’ resource, Implementing the Learning in Depth Program
    • a booklet, A Brief Guide for Parents/Guardians
    • 104 activity cards for students
    • a laminated list of suggested LiD topics and the criteria for selecting them
    • first-hand accounts by teachers who have implemented LiD with their classes
    • a DVD with short videos, templates for teachers’ logs, blackline masters for student use, and much more.

“The Learning in Depth project has brought to our students a completely new relationship to learning that has been surprising in its depth and quality.”
—Sheri Dunton, K–3 teacher, Corbett School, Oregon.

The LiDKit draws on the collaborative work of more than 25 teachers and researchers connected with the Imaginative Education Research Group at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada.
