On behalf of The Imaginative Education Research Group and the Student Commons we would like to introduce you to a new series with the purpose of supporting academic and social interests of the graduate community.

Organized and led by PhD student Kathryn Ricketts, this forum is for graduate students who are in the process of developing theories, principles, and practices designed to explain, describe, and exemplify new approaches to educating in any discipline.

The initial session is broken into 2 pieces; presentations of work in progress and then group discussions on over arching themes. The session is book-ended with informal social exchanges where interests can be shared and possible intersections discovered.

A note from Kathryn:

As a graduate student myself, I am interested in attending to the often isolated reality of the graduate student by initiating an informal platform where research ideas, writing drafts, conference presentations etc. can be “aired” for feedback. It is our intention to cultivate a supportive, constructive and yet critical environment with a design that responds to the needs and interests of the participants.

Refreshments will be provided.

If you are interested in presenting at one of these forums please contact Kathryn Ricketts at kathryn.ricketts@maindance.ca with the subject title "Salon Series"

"[Imagination] is the ability to think of the possible, not just the actual; it is the source of invention, novelty, and flexibility in human thinking; it is not distinct from rationality but is rather a capacity that greatly enriches rational thinking ...”.(Kieran Egan)
